Recent brain research (Kraus and Chandrasekaran) shows that exposing kids to music and musical training helps their listening skills in every area. Like jumping jacks for the body, listening to music helps brains practice listening, a skill that is bound to pay off in the classroom and elsewhere. That makes books which include a musical component an interesting choice for gifts this season.
